Belief Statement

I believe every child is an author, mathematician, engineer, artist, musician, and so much more.

I am an optimistic, devoted, and compassionate educator with hopes that in the future every child is able to feel loved, be heard, and know they are capable of changing the world.

Every child has a story and their story matters. My goal is to make their story known and help them feel confident in themselves.

I believe that every child is unique, and each has something new to bring to the classroom

Why Education

I have always wanted to become an educator because my mom was also an Elementary Education major. I grew up hearing stories and playing with my mom's old books from her time teaching.

I always loved working with kids so decided in high school to work at a preschool which gave me the experience to further my time learning how to lesson plan and create fun centers. I continued my field experience by taking Teaching 1 and 2 in my high school which allows me to learn teaching philosophies, laws, and shadow high school teachers. My favorite experience from these classes is being a student intern for a fourth-grade class my senior year. I was able to build relationships, learn classroom management and teach two lessons of my own. That field experience made me determined with my decision to become an elementary educator.

I decided on Butler University for their amazing field experiences, lab schools, and 100% placement rate after graduation. I have already have been able to work with adults with disabilities, become a reading tutor for a first-grader, and observe several classes for my many minors. Those experiences along with my other education courses have changed my perspective on education. I have loved my time as a Bulldog and look forward to student teaching in 2022-2023.

Minors

Kindergarten to 6th Grade

Diverse Learners

This minor is directed at understanding theories and methods of teaching children with mild disabilites, special needs, and inclusion within general education classrooms. This has helped shape me as an educator because I understand how to manage a classroom with a range of students by focusing on procedures and building a community of learners.

Mild Intervention

This minor is focused on the foundation of special education. Through the courses directed with this minor, I have learned about assessments, strategies, and laws that can impact special education in the classroom. Getting the licensure in Mild Intervention would allow me to work closely with students with a wide variety of disabilities.
